About
Laura Stieghorst established Básico in 2021 as a university research team competing for the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition. Success in this competition propelled her research on the ecological safety and carbon uptake efficiency of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE), a method of marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR).
This research in partnership with Planetary, a carbon removal supplier, was published in Marine Chemistry journal in 2023. Her research was later taken to the field on GO-SHIP A16N cruise. Throughout her journey, Laura has been deeply connected to local organizations and youth in climate as a 776 fellow, Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader, and OCB Regional Node leader.
Now, Laura runs Básico as an independent scientific advisor and project manager helping clients confidently navigate the complexities of ocean carbon dioxide removal.
